Visit the Whitney Museum of American Art

Whitney Museum of American Art.

The Whitney Museum of American Art is located on the West Side of Manhattan on Gansevoort Street. It was founded in 1930 by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. She was the wealthy and prominent art collector, patron and sculptor, after whom it is named. Informally, this museum is known as the Whitney. Foundationally, the museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting on 20—th and 21st—century American art, with a special focus on living artists.

The Museum’s signature exhibition – the Biennial, is the country’s leading survey of the state of contemporary art in the United States. The Whitney has an extensive permanent collection, as well as very interesting changing exhibits.

Since its location right next to the High Line’s base, it is very convenient to make this museum a part of your attraction hopping. If you are looking to spend more time viewing art – there are many art galleries around it. Also, there are some very pleasant restaurants including the ones right inside the museum

Price: General Admissions are $25 for adults; $18 for seniors and students; free for visitors age 18 and under.

Lastly, as for all the museums of NYC, we highly recommend purchasing your tickets online, in advance. You can directly do so HERE.
