Visit The High Line Park
The High Line Park
The High Line is an absolutely beautiful elevated ex-railroad, now park on the West Side of Manhattan Island. It runs all the way from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street, where it finishes with the Vessel. It’s true to say the walkway is very scenic, the architecture surrounding it seems surreal from the elevated point of view.
The High Line Story
Fascinating fact about the park: as already mentioned, it was an actual railroad. Trains that ran there delivered food. However, it all stopped and the railroad became an unused structure. After decades of disuse, being an eyesore for many, Mayor Giuliani has signed a demolition order. Although, few people got to see the beauty of wild plants taking over the railroad. Luckily, they have decided to save the structure from the demolition and proposed a new public park to be built on it. The wild landscape that naturally took over this urban structure has become the prototype for the park we see today.
What can you do around The High Line.
Firstly, you can easily get on and off The High Line and explore around. The High Line is a great walk on it’s own, with it’s creative public spaces, art and seasonal programs. Secondly, in addition to this walk being an experience by itself, you can combine it with more sight-seeing. Whitney Museum of American Art, is conveniently located right at the beginning of The High Line on Gansevoort. We highly recommend you to visit the famous Vessel and Hudson Yards, located at the end of the railroad.
For sure, this park is locals favorite and is an absolute Must See if you are touring.
